Canada's Tahoe still faces struggle in Guatemala
Thursday, November 8, 2018
Canadian miner Tahoe Resources issued a quarterly loss lower than Wall Street Had expected, but much worse than it recorded last year.
Operations at Tahoe's Escobal, the world's second largest silver mine, have been suspended since last year when its license was suspended amid a long-standing conflict with the Indigenous Xinca group.
The company has been ordered to renew talks with the Xinca, and Tahoe has said the first stage of an accord has been reached. Several investors and analysts, however, fear that a resolution of the dispute could be several years away.
