Canal fever grips Panama

 

Panamanians turned out in their thousands yesterday to acquire tickets for the upcoming ceremony to mark the widening of the Panama Canal.

Tickets had been due to be sold from 8 o’clock in the morning but because of the size of the crowds, the doors were opened more than an hour earlier. Shortly after midday, all the tickets had been sold.
