Cellphone firms use howitzers in El Salvador cellphone war
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
The four fixed and mobile phone companies in El Salvador have launched a fierce months-old price war to the delight of consumers.
Claro, Tigo, Movistar and Digicel have slashed by up to 50 percent the prices they charge for international calls, fixed networks, access to Internet, and cable television.
Pre-paid time on cellphones has been doubled, tripled and even quadrupled, and the phones themselves are being sold for $7 each.
