Central America led US container import growth in 2017

US container imports from Central America last year jumped 12 percent year-on-years to a record 1 million TEU outpacing growth from any other region.

The growth has kept freight rates elevated, ranging from $1,700 to $2,000 from New York-New Jersey, depending on the destination in Central America.
