Citigroup to exit five Central American markets

U.S. banking and financial services multinational Citigroup announced it will exit 11 consumer markets, including five in Central America.

The move means the company will leave Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama.

CEO Michael Corbat said the decision was made in order to simplify the company's business and place its resources where it can generate better results for its shareholders.
