Costa Rican business leaders in currency plea

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Costa Rican business leaders are calling on the government to create instruments that will protect them from exchange-rate fluctuations in the US dollar.

They want futures contracts that will establish the rate on which dollars and colons will be exchanged on fixed dates.

Arnoldo André, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said that the country needs to move to a managed float  and create medium-term alternatives such as dollarization.
