Farm production grows by 8 percent in Nicaragua
Monday, November 5, 2012
Farm output in Nicaragua during the current 2012-2013 cycle is likely to increase by 8 percent compared with the previous cycle despite a drought, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America, Eclac.
"We were expecting growth of 10 to 12 percent, but the drought has reduced it to 8 percent," said Manuel Álvarez, president of the nation's farmers' union.
The most important increases have been achieved so far in sugarcane, sorghum and beans.
