Guatemala joins race to link oceans

The Government of Guatemala announced it will buy the necessary land for its Inter-Oceanic canal project by the end of this year.
The project, valued at $10 billion, includes the construction of 372-kilometer dry canal, a seaport on each end, Pacific and Atlantic, five pipelines for gas and oil, industrial parks along the canal and a highway.
President Otto Pérez declared it a project of national interest.
