Guatemala: millionaire's paradise

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Guatemala is the Central American country with the most millionaires, according to a 2014 report by Wealth-X consultants.

With 260 millionaires, whose combined wealth exceeds $30 billion, Guatemala has 35 more magnates than Honduras, while Costa Rica with $14 billion controlled by 100 tycoons, is the most egalitarian country in the region.

The United States leads the world ranking, with 211,275 millionaires.

Cuba and Tajikistan last on the list, with only six millionaires each.

The report uses a proprietary model, which estimates the value of publicly traded and private assets (figures in parentheses indicate the number of millionaires in each country).

1. Guatemala (260)

2. Honduras (225)

3. Nicaragua (210)

4. El Salvador (160)

5. Panama (120)
