The in-bond assembly plants known as maquiladoras say they will export some $4.2 million of garments, textiles and wire harnesses this year, a 2.5 percent increase own 2017, according to the Central Bank.
The maquiladoras account for 5 percent of the nation's GDP, and the number of jobs created is running at 2 percent a year.
Almost three quarters of all the exports go to the United States, 17 percent to the rest of Central America, 2 percent to Mexico and 4 percent to Canada.
