The government of Nicaragua still owes $681 million in bonds to compensate for the splurge of confiscations by the Sandinista government of the 1980s.
In August, the next $13.6 million payment is due on the bonds.
The next five years will be decisive for repayment of the debt, so long as exports remain to grow.
