Nicaraguan exports drop 7 percent in first nine months

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Nicaragua exported $1.2 billion in the first nine months of the year, a 7 percent drop compared to the same period last year, the country's exports authority, Cetrex, reported.

Cetrex said the drop is a result of lower international prices of traditional products such as banana, coffee, sugar cane, beans and dairy products.

The United States is still the country's main trading partner, receiving 25 percent of Nicaragua's total exports, followed by Venezuela with 15 percent and Canada with 12 percent.
