No light at end of tunnel on coffee prices

Monday, February 4, 2019

The world coffee harvest, which began in October, appears to have been hit by an excessive supply. As a result, prices are not expected to increase, according to the International Coffee Organization.

In fact, so far prices have fallen, though only slightly, The ICA names the Central American arabica strains of coffee as "other milds", and they have been averaging 120 US cents per pound, a price that most producers fail to cut their costs.

This will be a second year of over-supply in the world coffee market, though not as bad as it was in the previous harvest.
