Ortega summit no-show points to tiff with Costa Rica

Thursday, February 21, 2013

The ongoing border tiff between Nicaragua and Costa Rica continues to hamper Central American integration efforts as Sandinista President Daniel Ortega pulled a no-show at yesterday’s Central American presidential summit in San José.

The summit, which was also skipped by Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes, is part of the Central American Integration System’s, SICA, efforts to strengthen trade and security in the region.

Ortega, who likes to talk about the importance of Central American integration and unity, also skipped all the SICA summits the last time Costa Rica help the pro tempore presidency of the regional body.
