Panama is the region’s technology leader

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Panama is the Central American country with the best access to information and technologies, according to this year’s Network Readiness Index, published by the World Economic Forum.

Panama placed fourth in the Americas, thanks largely to low consumer prices in the telecom sector.

Only the United States, Canada and Chile outperformed Panama.

Costa Rica was second in Central America, while Nicaragua was last.

Finland led a list of 148 countries.

Chad did worst.

The index analyzes price, coverage, and quality and accessibility of services, among other criteria (figures reflect the position in the global ranking of each Central American country).

1. Panama (43)
2. Costa Rica (53)
3. El Salvador (98)
4. Guatemala (101)
5. Honduras (116)
6. Nicaragua (124)
