Panama seeks sovereign fund for Canal earnings
Tuesday, April 5, 2011
Panama’s government is being advised by the International Monetary Fund on plans to establish a sovereign fund.
Sovereign funds are used by countries, such as Singapore and Norway, that have unusually high earnings.
In Panama’s case the fund would invest additional earnings from the widening of the Panama Canal beginning in 2014, according to the proposal launched by Alberto Vallarino, the Economy minister.
