Presidents join business chiefs in fight against violence

Friday, April 27, 2012

Honduran president Porfirio Lobo and Nicaraguan president, Daniel Ortega, agreed to include business leaders in the debate concerning organized crime and public security.

The business leaders and police chiefs present at the talks warned that the crime levels seen in the region could affect Central America's hopes to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

Organized crime and violence cost Central America about 8 per cent of the region's gross domestic product.
