Republicans boycott US hearing on trade as parties split over support for deals

Senate Republicans boycotted a preliminary hearing on free trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama.
Instead, they staged a simultaneous press conference and brought the stop-and-go process to yet another halt.
Democratic senators filled half a hearing room to declare their support for trade deals opposed by much of their party’s political base.
