Thousands of members of ethnic minorities protest Panama’s mining reform

Thousands of people from indigenous communities protested in panama against plans in Congress to change the nation’s mining laws.
The main march was held in the province of Chiriquí, near the border with Costa Rica, where some 2,000 people in traditional costumes and with painted faces staged a protest on the Interamerican Highway.
The government of Ricardo Martinell recently presented Congress with a reform of the 1963 mining regulations. The change aims to attract more investment.
