Tourism in region grew by almost 8 percent last year

Central America's importance as a tourism destination is growing. The most recent official figures indicate the region received 12.9 million visitors in 2012.
The World Tourism Organization reported that about 4 million of the visitors were from cruise ships.
The increase in tourist arrivals was estimated at 7.7 percent.
