Two European nations freeze aid to Nicaragua
Monday, July 23, 2018
The Netherlands and Luxembourg announced suspension of cooperation with the government of Nicaragua because of what they described as human rights violations during anti-government demonstrations.
Nicaragua has long been a favored recipient of social and economic aid. Last year it received donations and soft loans of $218 million.
The main donors then were the United states, Venezuela and South Korea, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Taiwan and Luxembourg.
