US legislators aim to ensure free and fair elections in Nicaragua

The Lower House of the US Congress unanimously passed the Nicaraguan Investment Conditionality Act, known as NICA. This is a bill that proposes to block access to international funds for Nicaragua until the Managua government undertakes free and fair elections and respect all human rights.
The bill now goes on to the Senate. Its proponents allege that the electoral process in Nicaragua has not been fair and transparent in recent years.
