World Bank spots opportunities in Nicaraguan water

Development of Nicaragua's water and sanitation markets provides ample opportunities for private investors, Lilian Peña, a water and sanitation specialist at the World Bank told BNamericas.
While the majority of funding for investments in the state water and sewage utility, Enacal, comes from donors, "there is room for private sector participation," said Peña.
Private sector participation could include energy efficiency contracts in which the private sector provides expertise and investments that help the utility to save resources, part of which are retained by the firm as its return and management or build and operate contracts, particularly for smaller utilities, said the specialist.
