Tuesday 01 August, 2017
A new FAO-supported satellite monitoring system to observe how drought affects agriculture will start operating in Central America, the Regional Committee for Water Resources of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the regional Agricultural Council.
According to the Long-Term Climate Risk Index, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador are among the 15 countries with the greatest impact globally, due to the effects of climate change and natural phenomena. The executive secretary of SICA's Hydraulic Resources Committee, Bertha Olmedo, recently expressed her satisfaction with this system that generates meteorological information on the state of plants and crops, which will support decision-making in food security issues.
